On Sunday October 9th at 4:30opm, we are heading to AMC Ridge Park Square Movie Theater to see Birth of a Nation. The film follows Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher, whose financially strained owner, Samuel Turner, accepts an offer to use Nat’s preaching to subdue unruly slaves. Nat Turner is an enslaved Baptist preacher who lives on a Virginia plantation owned by Samuel Turner. As Nat witnesses the horrific treatment of his fellow man, he realizes that he can no longer just stand by and preach. The film won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival and has been highly praised for its directing, acting, soundtrack and cinematography.
After the film we are going to have conversations in a nearby restaurant. All are welcome to attend. RSVP’s are welcomed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Special thanks to Barbara Wilberg for organizing the event.
