Covenant and Commitments
We believe that God has made a covenant with all of Creation and desires fullness of life for all living beings. In response, we commit ourselves to a covenant as a congregation, which guides us in living out our mission and moving toward our vision of the world that we believe God imagines for all people:
Pilgrim Church Covenant
We pledge to seek justice, to oppose violence, racism, sexism, fear of differences, economic inequity, and abuse of power, and substitute acts of goodwill and caring; To feed the hungry, to nurture the ill, and to prevent cruelty to any of God’s children or any of God’s Creatures. We pledge ourselves to welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions into the full life and ministry of the church. (revised 2025)
Within this covenant, there are three commitments in particular that have shaped our life together as a congregation and our witness in the world over the past several decades:
- Just Peace—Seeking justice, being peacemakers, serving as good stewards of Creation (1993- )
- Open and Affirming—Welcoming people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions into the full life and ministry of the church (1993- )
- Sanctuary Congregation—Advocating and witnessing to more compassionate immigration policies and standing with those threatened with deportation (2017- ).
