What We Believe

Pilgrim Congregational UCC is part of the United Church of Christ, a progressive Protestant denomination. Our church is non-credal, which means that you don’t need to affirm a prescribed set of beliefs (also known as a creed) in order to belong. People come to us from a variety of spiritual backgrounds, and many find the openness in the UCC refreshing! While there is a great deal of variety in beliefs in the United Church of Christ, here are some common characteristics in the United Church of Christ:

  • God Is Still Speaking—We believe that God did not stop speaking after the Bible was written but that God continues to speak good news today.
  • Extravagant Hospitality—We seek to welcome all people and offer extravagant hospitality to anyone we encounter as a response to God’s love and grace for all people. (And yes, we do mean ALL!)
  • Prophetic Witness—Our church has a legacy of involvement in early truth telling and prophetic witness related to social issues. Our Church Covenant and Commitments show the ways that we seek to respond to contemporary issues and the needs of our community and world.
