God
sets a big table at Pilgrim Church, and there’s room for everyone to gather at
the feast.
Each Sunday morning at 10:30, we come together and sing, pray (silently
and out loud), hear the Good News, and bring our own gifts to the celebration.
We look around our magnificent sanctuary and feel the presence of God, and not
just because our surroundings are awe-inspiring. Our voices lift in song, the
Word is preached, bread is broken and the cup is shared, and we can feel in the
rhythm of our life together – praising God, caring for one another, striving
for justice and peace – that God is at work in our midst. We feel our lives
being transformed.

Our services are enriched by the incredible
gifts not only of our pastors but of the people of this church, beginning with
music. We have a vibrant music ministry that includes our Chancel Choir,
Inspiration Choir, and Children’s Choir. The Voluntary Brass, the Handbell
Choir, and various other instrumentalists bring their own distinctive beauty to
worship. Our arts groups, including Antaeus Dance, Kenyetta African Dance
Theatre, and Full Circle Theatre give added dimension to our experience of
God through our worship. Most importantly, the people of Pilgrim Church
live out a heartfelt commitment to hospitality, so every person who walks
through the door is extended a warm and gracious welcome. Our time together,
downstairs, after worship, is a time to get to know one another, to enjoy one
another’s company, to lend a word of support, encouragement, and celebration.
We leave, feeling empowered, strengthened, called.
It’s been said that you never know what to expect on Sunday morning at Pilgrim
Church, from the New Orleans Jazz Ensemble on Mardi Gras Sunday to Pilgrim
attire on Thanksgiving Sunday, but it’s also true that you know what you can
count on at Pilgrim Church on Sunday morning: Spirit-filled worship, inclusivity
that respects and welcomes all of God’s children, a sanctuary of breathtaking
beauty, and a challenge to take this gift out into the world and make it a
better place. This faith community of lots of different kinds of people
recognizes that we are, above all and deep-down, children of God, and sisters
and brothers to one another. We make sure, then, that everyone has a place at
the table. Come and find your place at the table God has set, and join in the
feast. You can’t imagine what it’s like just from reading about it; come and
see for yourself.
